#Hartzy4WB (maybe eventually): Hartzell to the Penguins

Eric Hartzell, Hobey finalist for Quinnipiac, could’ve just hung around where he played his last college game, though he’ll have to move down the hall from the visitors’ room. The Penguins announced that they’ve signed the goalie to an NHL deal for this season. Because of his age, the deal only had to be for this year; he’ll be a restricted free agent in the summer with his entry-level contract out of the way, so more money’s a possibility. The deal would seem to keep Hartzell in Pittsburgh for the rest of the season, however long it goes there, but he could be a WBS candidate for next year.

Las Vegas was eliminated from the ECHL playoffs tonight. We’ll ask tomorrow whether Marc Cantin will return for what could be the last week of the Sound Tigers’ season.

Hey, remember the Sound Tigers? I’ll have to get reacquainted.

The Allan Cup — Canada’s senior amateur championship — begins Monday night for Jeremy Colliton, Trent Hunter and Travis Brigley, among others. Here’s the tourney website.

Edit: Former Sacred Heart captain Patrick Knowlton turns out to score the SPHL President’s Cup-winning goal as Pensacola wins the championship. He had six points in seven playoff games. (Hat tip: Justin Cohn.)

And thanks for your patience with the college coverage this week, if you weren’t interested (hope, maybe, we got you interested). Big work from Chris Elsberry all week, not least on the highways. Fun to ride along.
