Rookies report, don’t play

The Islanders announced their rookie camp schedule today; it included no rookie games. An assortment of entry-level types* will be there at the Coliseum (closed to the public). They show up Thursday and hit the ice Friday-Tuesday, and then the Big Club gets to work. Some of them will probably be up here in a couple of weeks for Bridgeport’s camp. Some will battle a little longer on the Island.

(Probably won’t make it down there this week, but we’ll keep an eye on what comes from there.)

Tom Kostopoulos back to Wilkes-Barre again with some recruiting ideas from Jonathan Bombulie.

Masuk’s Thomas Milone got promoted to the New York-Penn League for tonight’s game. Good things happened, including his first professional home run. (Hat tip: @RaysProspects.)

Interesting story on guaranteed contracts in Major League Baseball from Yahoo Sports. (Hat tip: Glenn Wong (@WongSportsLaw))

And RIP, Tommy “Duke” Morrison, and also David Frost, who’ll probably always be associated with Richard Nixon, but whose “That Was the Week That Was” probably resonates more for me though I’d never actually seen an episode until this weekend.

*-Full roster not included, but the release listed “Calvin de Haan, Matt Donovan, Kirill Kabanov, Anders Lee, Scott Mayfield, Brock Nelson, Anders Nilsson, Andrey Pedan, Ryan Pulock, Griffin Reinhart, Ryan Strome, Johan Sundstrom” and promised others.
