Penalty avoidance 101

Three fights for Brett Gallant (including one in which he and Krys Barch took off each other’s helmets to avoid the new penalty) and a goal for line-with-nickname-to-come-if-necessary in the Islanders’ preseason win in New Jersey. A fight for Mike Dalhuisen, and Joey Diamond fought Stephen Gionta at the end of the game, too, after being nailed for attempted spearing*. Pretty sure the Islanders only got to eight “veterans” for this one because Ryan Pulock counts, but they got the job done against Marty Brodeur (for 40 minutes) et al.

Edit: Bridgeport announced its promotional schedule Friday morning, and the Islanders announced what Arthur had yesterday, that Cal Clutterbuck is out 4-6 weeks with a skate laceration to his leg.

It now sounds as if the Sound Tigers will begin their camp, including whatever Stockton types as they may try out, on Long Island next week. We’ll see what we’re able to make.

Meanwhile Nathan McIver is going to camp with Hamilton. Mikko Koskinen is going to Siberia (hat tip: Elite Prospects). And talk about your throwback Thursdays: Former Future Sound Tiger turned Sound Tigers killer Andy Chiodo…

… ah, sorry, just made you lose your lunch. He’s back with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, in fact, on a tryout.

And RIP, Ken Norton Sr. and Hiroshi Yamauchi.
