The Islanders lost Evgeni Nabokov early in their game tonight against Dallas; Kevin Poulin took over, and the Isles announced only a lower-body injury on their veteran goalie. But the Big Club won it 7-3. Ryan Strome’s first NHL goal; Calvin de Haan’s first NHL point (his first two points, actually); goals for Brock Nelson and Peter Regin, who hadn’t had one in a while; and it’s obviously all because Phil Giubileo called his first regular-season NHL play-by-play.
Edit: the Islanders placed Nabokov on injured reserve after the game and called up Anders Nilsson.
The 91st consecutive home sellout for St. John’s is an AHL record, breaking Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s 2002-04 mark. (Corey Trivino finally got there and finally made his AHL debut. Coupla points on the other side for Brenden Kichton and Kael Mouillierat. (Defenseman-turned-forward Mark Louis, who was briefly credited with his first goal in the Tuesday-night makeup at Bridgeport in the last week of last season, did get his first goal tonight.)
