Kabanov overseas

MoDo announced this afternoon that Kirill Kabanov has been loaned over there for the rest of the season.

It’s probably a good move for everyone. Kabanov had been a healthy scratch quite a bit, including three of the past six games here, and sure looked like it was headed at least for four of seven tonight. He rarely cracked the top six (the team said at the time that was why he went to Stockton earlier in the year) or the power play after he came back from the Coast. He remains Islander property with the loan and could come back after the Swedish season or next year.

So there’s that. That leaves 13 forwards (including Riley Wetmore, who may or may not quite be game-available yet, and John Persson, who seemed closer this week, but not counting Justin Johnson, finishing the suspension this weekend), seven defensemen (including Scooter Vaughan, who has played quite a bit up front) and two goalies healthy here. Ran down the injury/illness litany in the paper today.
