Two goals for Strome: Wednesday notes

There’d been four Sound Tigers to score more than a point at the AHL All-Star Game, but if I’ve not misrecorded, Ryan Strome tonight became the first to score two goals. (First one reminded me just a little of his goal Sunday against Adiondack. Turnover, capitalized, high glove. Just a different kind of pass, a teammate more directly involved, moved about 30 feet to the left.) Brandon Pirri had two goals and an assist to take the MVP as the AHL beat Farjestad 7-2.

The AHL break ends Friday, so players would be trickling back to town Thursday. We’ll see how that goes around here tomorrow. Meanwhile, the ECHL transactions reveal that Bridgeport will evidently sign defenseman Jake Newton to a PTO. (He’s been around a bit the past couple of years.) Tough read at this moment exactly what that’d mean; there are a few possibilities, some considering the breaks ongoing. We’ll see Friday, presumably, if we don’t hear earlier.

There’s this postcard from Alaska:

Sat in gum at Shelton tonight for my second game (well, its third period). Yep, on the edge of the seat, sat down, missed it, all over the back of the pantleg. Sending Howard the bill. (I’m blaming that for the Twitter typo. Sorry, Tommy.) Before that, quite the eclectic mix of music at my first game at Milford Ice Pavilion. All over the map; recent, oldies, all kinds of stuff in between, including “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” I can only assume that’s a tribute to the impending retirement of the last remaining mid-’90s Yankee.

And RIP, the legendary Sid Caesar.
