Today’s deal, yesterday’s ATOs, snow and sadness

Edit: Took a while to get the “that’s all” signal, but just the Jackson for Langlois deal for Bridgeport. No reported call-ups or send-downs, either: 16 F (with one presumed to be going for Michael Grabner), 6 D, 2 G. They’ll adjust if they have to, Scott Pellerin said, but that’s what they’ve got for now.

Most-interesting deal around the league: Hershey picked up Kris Newbury from Adirondack for Derek Whitmore.

Deadline day hasn’t been a busy day for Bridgeport in the past, but we’ve already got one deal, the aforementioned acquisition of Jeremy Langlois, which surely excites the Quinnipiac contingent in the front office and its alumni. (“Its” meaning the front office’s, though maybe the school’s, too.) The ECHL joined in on Twitter to point out that Langlois leads that league in rookie scoring at 16-36-52 in 49 games. He’d been scoreless in five for Springfield.

Jackson was part of the power play all year, bouncing between the first and second units depending on who else was around at the time, but he’d been in and out of the lineup the past few weeks since the defense corps got healthy. He goes to a Springfield team that’s been short on the blue line for various reasons recently, and he gets himself into playoff position, too.

So at this writing Bridgeport has 16 forwards (Langlois is coming here and apparently is assigned No. 20), six defensemen and two goalies. But there’s over an hour to go.

…..

The old “let’s use the blog to supplement coverage” idea, joining today’s story based on Dmitry Antipin’s arrival and the broader ATO thing: Players signed to amateur tryouts by the Sound Tigers, and how many of them were draft picks (with noted exceptions for guys who arrived with contracts for next year in their pockets):

Year Total ATOs Draft picks
2001-02 2-d 1
2002-03 1-j 0
2003-04 2-j 0
2004-05 2 0
2005-06 4 3
2006-07 5 1-a
2007-08 3 1
2008-09 4 3
2009-10 2 1
2010-11 12 3
2011-12 7-q 2-b
2012-13 6 2-c

a-plus Trevor Smith was signed for 2007-08. b-plus Mike Halmo was signed for 2012-13. c-plus Riley Wetmore was signed (AHL) for 2013-14. d-including backup Dan Lombard. j-including emergency backup Jim Sanca. q-including backup Dan Clarke.

That’s compiled from season-ending rosters and supplemented by a couple of other files. There are exceptions to this like Sean Bergenheim and Ryan Strome, who arrived already signed to NHL SPCs that were already in effect.

…..

If you were going to Rochester for tonight’s Senators-Amerks game, don’t. In fact, if you were going to Rochester for anything today, don’t. (Though the Amerks may be aiming bigger, wondered if Jackson might’ve been going there. Edit: Looks like the Americans got their man in Worcester’s Nick Petrecki, reassigned by the Sharks. San Jose also assigned Sebastian Stalberg to Portland.)

And that ongoing sad story from the OHL ended the worst way possible: RIP, Terry Trafford.
