Not Friday yet: Thursday notes

Edit, 5:10 p.m.: Well, it’s CBA Friday: The Islanders have called up Johan Sundstrom. He could get his first crack in an NHL sweater tomorrow night. In this case, they’ve used emergency recall. Original post follows.

So we await word on a recall. The Islanders have defensemen like Bridgeport has forwards — you’d think there’d have been a balancing at some point, but no — so they could go with seven D tomorrow night, as Arthur Staple noted this morning, but there could be a call-up, too.

There wasn’t one yet this morning. Bridgeport had everybody out there (with Justin Johnson on defense to give them seven), including for a while, Chris Bruton, out for going on two months with an upper-body injury. “He looked good,” Scott Pellerin said. “He looked happy. He skated well. We’ll see how that progresses.”

Johnson on the blue line left five lines of forwards, including newbie Jeremy Langlois, in town early this morning, on right wing with John Persson and Andrew Clark.

New Canaan and Notre Dame-West Haven will play here Saturday at 3 in the state quarterfinals. (Separate admission.)

The Islanders have an exhibition game set for St. John’s on Sept. 22.

And that John Tavares guy is all right.
