Diamond, Quine to Stockton/Wetmore, Brace up

Bridgeport has sent Joey Diamond and Alan Quine down to Stockton and called up Adam Brace, acquired about a month ago for Mike Dalhuisen, and Riley Wetmore.

The timing seemed more curious to me than the move (though Diamond was in-and-out even now), but Scott Pellerin said there were other factors around the rest of the roster at different times that made it prudent to keep Diamond and Quine here until now.

“It’s tough timing at any point,” Pellerin said. “We’re going to take a hit here in Bridgeport, two quality players. At the end of the day, we believe, in the long-term development of our guys, this is a move we had to make.”

Beyond that, if they play five games for Stockton, the two of them will be eligible to play in the playoffs. But Pellerin was stressing development and situational playing time.

“They’re important pieces on the offensive side of the puck right now,” Pellerin said. “The way we see things moving forward, we want to develop their confidence, have them play important minutes.”

Wetmore returns after going down to the Thunder on Feb. 20, six days after Brace came from San Antonio for Dalhuisen. Brace has six points in 10 AHL games this year and 29 points in 40 ECHL games for two teams. Wetmore played eight games out there.
