Adirondack liveblog

Second game of the roadie at Adirondack tonight. We’ll be listening to Bob Rotruck (A href=”http://tunein.com/radio/Q1017-s28560/”>audio/video) and following Corey, Diana, Bob and the Phantoms on Twitter.

With Michael Grabner back and emergency conditions terminated, the Islanders sent Johan Sundstrom down this afternoon. Wouldn’t imagine he gets to Glens Falls, but we’ll see, as well as see what changes may come to last night’s lineup.

Noted on Twitter last night: Believe that last night was the first game Aaron Ness has lost to injury in his pro career. His only other AHL scratch that wasn’t due to call-up was the second-to-last night in 2011-12, the night after they’d clinched the division, when a slew of regulars were dropped off in Bridgeport before the rest of them went to Wilkes-Barre for Sabado Mas Pequeno. Rules being what they were then, those guys were probably (cough) “injured” or “ill” or something. (Sticking with “seasonal allergies.”)

Stockton had a military appreciation night Friday. You’ll want to read Scott Linesburgh’s story on the veteran who dropped the puck. (The Thunder snapped a losing streak; a bunch of familiar names involved.)

Caught a throwback on Twitter last night from up in Waterbury: Joe Palladino on Jessica Mudry, who in addition to being a basketball legend at Naugatuck used to work for the Beast of New Haven.

More in a bit.

–Just as I hit “post,” John Persson scored his first NHL goal on the Island. Cleaned that up. It read differently and poorly originally.

–Trudeau vs. Heeter, Diana tweets.

–Waiting on Bridgeport side. Arthur Staple tweeted a few minutes ago that Scott Mayfield was already a possible call-up, and after Calvin de Haan was hurting today, that possibility became more likely.

–From the box online, no Mayfield (or Justin Johnson); Jesse Graham and Josh Holmstrom are in. Still just two alternates; no Ness.

–Bob is incredibly excited about the Holmstroms’ matchup.

–Best guess at a Bridgeport lineup added above.

–Heeter stops a flurry that began with Gallant alone at the front of the net. At the end of it all, Gallant and Eddy go at it in front of the net, and Gallant gets Eddy down. Gallant gets a misconduct as well. That’s his 20th fighting major this year and the 65th of his Bridgeport career, tying Micheal Haley’s team record.

–Both goalies made some big saves, so no score after one. Shots 14-13 Bridgeport, whose latest scoreless streak is 81:42.

–Second period: Bridgeport didn’t get it deep, Adirondack came back two-on-one, and Tyler Brown finishes it at 4:32 for a 1-0 lead.

–Bob said Graham took a high-sticking penalty and my first reaction was “wait, who?” That time of year. But 36 seconds into that Langkow is called for goalie interference; a long five-on-three. Vaughan, Finley and Burroughs for the kill — Bridgeport took its time out.

–A big penalty kill. Burroughs and Vaughan blocked shots.

–Pedan vs. Ben Holmstrom with 2:22 left in the period.

–Finley with a big hit on Alderson; Bridgeport comes out, Langkow pulls up and feeds Vaughan for a slapper and a tying goal with 1:38 remaining in the first. That ends a scoreless drought of 100 minutes, 4 seconds; they’d had one goal in over 303 minutes before that one. 1-1.

–So it is after two. Shots even in the period despite the five-on-three.

–Pedan’s was Bridgeport’s 100th fight of the season.

–Fun while it lasted: The Islanders called Johan Sundstrom back up, as well as making Scott Mayfield’s recall official.

–Straka scores 35 seconds into the third to make it 2-1 Phantoms. It seemed pretty routine, but Akeson got it behind the net and fed Straka for two shots.

–Both Sundstrom and Mayfield are termed emergency, BTW. Bridgeport gets its first power play at 1:38 of the third, an Alderson board on Leboeuf.

–Six seconds into a Pedan minor, Alderson tips Hagg’s shot to make it 3-1 with 13:29 to go.

–With Bordson away for a trip, Langkow moves in, takes it to the right circle and beats Heeter over the glove to make it 3-2 Adirondack with 7:25 left.

–Jesse Graham gets an assist in his pro debut.

–Pedan for a trip with 5:31 left.

–Bridgeport survives that (though an Akeson went off two posts, and another scramble got to the goal line but stayed out) and will have a late power play. … And Langkow ties it with 1:33 left from Vaughan.

–Overtime.

–Well. Vaughan for a hold with 2:11 left. Phantoms’ fifth power play. Excuse me, sixth.

–Penalty survived with help from a bunch of shots wide. End of overtime. Bonus round to come.

–Heeter stops three ATOs. Quine scores and Alderson answers in the fourth round. Vaughan misses high, Cousins scores: Adirondack 4, Bridgeport 3 (SO), final. The comeback gets a point, but they’re winless in eight, tied for third in team history.

–A good team effort, Pellerin said. “When we scored, it seemed to open things up for us,” he said.

“There wasn’t one ounce of quit. We battled adversity, an extended five-on-three, some other penalties. We did make mistakes. It wasn’t perfect. It’s a young team.” He’ll stay on them.

Pellerin on the newcomers: Jesse Graham: “(He played) very, very well. He was poised out there.” He referred to the old saw that you know a defenseman played well when you don’t notice him. “He moved the puck. My staff did a very good job getting him familiar with our systems. For a young man, to come in like that, it’s a credit to his coaches in junior.”

Josh Holmstrom, who like a lot of young guys got time in lots of situations: “He played some big minutes for us. We put him on the penalty kill late, the four-on-three. He blocked a couple of shots. I knew what we were getting; I’ve seen him play quite a bit at Lowell. What I was expecting is what we got.”

Nine ATOs in the lineup, beginning with Trudeau: “I’ve never seen a kid get two bad bounces from the blue line: There was the one in Hartford, and then the one tonight (Alderson’s goal), it hit Scooter’s arm, the guy’s (Alderson’s) leg and was in the net. Another one (Straka’s), it hit Burroughs’ foot.” He was impressed with Trudeau’s lateral movement to make some saves and thought he controlled his rebounds well.

Ness will be a gametime decision tomorrow. More then.
