And so it must be: Stars win Game 1

Maybe St. John’s just doesn’t have enough former Sound Tigers. Texas took Game 1 6-3 tonight in Cedar Park behind a three-goal second period.

The IceCaps withstood a ferocious first for the Stars (“They come as advertised, Robin Short,” Brian Rogers said before a TV time out to his color man and the Telegram’s sports editor) down just 1-0, and in fact they tied it on Will O’Neill’s goal. But then Texas scored three goals on just four shots in the second.

Third-period goals by Kael Mouillierat and Jordan Hill (his first as a Cap, 83 regular-season and playoff games) twice cut three-goal leads to two. Not enough. Game 2 is Monday night.
