Kabanov on unconditional waivers/(updated) signings, notes

Kirill Kabanov, a character, funny — hilarious at times. Still aggravated coaches and earned himself an early-season trip to Stockton this year. Injury muddled up his first pro season here; the second ended with assignment to Sweden.

Won’t be a third, at least not here: Ren Lavoie broke that the Islanders have placed Kabanov on unconditional waivers and will buy him out if no one claims the final year of his contract.

His Bridgeport career, then: 48 games, 5-7-12. Two power-play goals, including one on opening night this season, three days before he was sent to Stockton.

Edit: Brian Compton posted this from Kabanov’s Facebook page:

“I think it is time to say goodbye to all NY Islanders fans. Thank you for all your wishes and for great support through all those years. It was my choice to move and huge respect to Garth for understanding. I spend 4 years with the Islanders organization and never had a chance to play even in AHL for them. But I still appreciate Islanders Medical staff for being with me after injury i get my first year in Bridgeport. and all the staff in Islanders organization.. And specially fans . You will be my friends forever no matter what team i will play in the future. I made great friends and fall in love with Long Island, but it is time to move.”

Edit2: The restricted free agents are accounted for (except, obviously, for Anders Nilsson): Casey Cizikas got a two-year deal and Calvin de Haan signed for three.
