Notes from vacation: Friday notes

Training camp gets underway in earnest on the Island tomorrow. (Burning off bits of vacation, as it happens in the living room, not that we’d be hanging out in Uniondale anyway.) The Big Club announced five pro tryouts in camp. They include C.J. Stretch, Chris Langkow and Scooter Vaughan, who are under Bridgeport contract.

Ex-files of different vintages: Adam Brace to Florida (ECHL). Scott Campbell to Italy. Ryan Walters drew attention in Minnesota rookie camp. Art Bidlevskii back to Gwinnett; Greg Miller to Orlando.

The new rule book made its appearance (H/T Jason Iacona). We’ll do the annual side-by-side at some point. (But vacation.) A quick run-through to look at black boxes, though, shows a couple of clarifications we wondered about. Indeed, in 20.4, if a player’s second fight comes as the result of clear instigation by his opponent, the referee doesn’t have to give that second-fighter a game misconduct. In 49.2, a new category (iv) clarifies that a goal is good if it deflects off an attacking player’s skate (not kicked), even if the player is in the process of stopping. And 85.3, concerning penalties in overtime, confirms that manpower will never dip below three a side; they’ll add players to create power plays.

Meanwhile, Fancy-Dan new version of soundtigers.com.

And RIP, Bob Crewe and Frank Torre.
