First Islanders cuts

The Islanders’ first cuts include Sebastian Collberg, Jesse Graham, Loic Leduc, Andrey Pedan and Adam Pelech, assigned to Bridgeport. Sound Tigers contracts Chris Langkow, Scooter Vaughan, C.J. Stretch, Mark Nemec and Philippe Trudeau were also released from assorted NHL tryouts. Unsigned draft pick Lukas Sutter was also sent to Bridgeport’s camp, which Arthur Staple noted begins today in Syosset. Awaiting a full list of players over there.

Edit: The Islanders also placed Brett Gallant on waivers this afternoon. If he clears Tuesday, he’s eligible to be sent down as well.

….

After seeing Hershey’s this morning — Jon Landry, Joel Broda, Joey Diamond, not to mention New Canaan’s Jack Downing on an invite — I was going to say that former Sound Tigers have seemed to pop up on every AHL camp roster. But that’s kind of because there are a heck of a lot of former Sound Tigers. At the end of the 2009-10 season, the last in which the team won a playoff game, the Bridgeport franchise had used 269 players. Ryan Pulock last spring became No. 405 to play for the Sound Tigers. That’s 136 new players in the past four seasons, not counting anyone who’d been here before. In the first four seasons, starting from scratch, Bridgeport used 120 players.

What with the 65 players last year and the 62 in 2010-11 and the 53 in 2011-12 and the 43 in the second lockout year, this really doesn’t surprise you. But still.
