Ness named captain

He was the closest thing Bridgeport had to a veteran most of last year. This year, Aaron Ness is going to wear the C. The team announced him as their 11th captain this afternoon.

“I think he’s vocal in the room, well-liked by his teammates,” Brent Thompson said. “He’s a likeable guy. He’s respected. It’s a respect that comes from work ethic, I think.”

Nothing on alternates yet.

…….

What’d become a saga a rung lower on the minor-league hockey ladder has finally ended, pretty much the only way it could’ve: the ECHL has absorbed the remaining seven teams from the Central Hockey League.

NBCSN picked up Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger. Solid moves. (ESPN did the draft at least once, didn’t it?)

Pretty much the sweetest thing in history: Alex Ovechkin on a date.

And RIP, Geoffrey Holder.
