Blasting away: Hartford postgame 2

Normally I write about something, and… well, it’s like the SI cover jinx. Sometimes it’s just regression to the mean.

But last week I wrote Griffin Reinhart, and he got hurt. This week, I wrote Ryan Pulock to advance the weekend… and he’s got three goals in two games.

It struck me even last night on the power play that Pulock (whose goal last night came at even strength) was getting more room to get the shot off, and that that was kind of dangerous. Same thing happened tonight. (Asked him about it; it’ll be in the final gamer.)

Not giving him chances on the power play would also help. Hartford took six penalties in the last 20:12, gave Bridgeport eight power plays overall, had one potential short power play of its own wiped out by another penalty. Bridgeport gave the Pack four power plays, making this the first time in five games the Sound Tigers had more power plays than their opponents.

“Discipline’s a factor every time you win,” Brent Thompson said. “You have to be disciplined to win in this league or any league.”

Wilkes-Barre’s loss to Syracuse leaves Bridgeport, with five wins in a row, alone in first place in the Eastern Conference.

……

Alan Quine takes the active scoring-streak lead away from Josh Bailey. There are 10 longer regular-season streaks in team history than Quine’s nine, plus Raffi Torres’ 11-gamer in the 2002 playoffs.

Brett Gallant’s first point in 29 games, since his goal last Feb. 21. His last assist came on Nov. 15, last year. Schedule note for next year, obviously.

David Leggio wasn’t happy with the second goal, off his glove and in after Ryan Malone got out of the way, but he finished with 25 saves and a victory. “Leggio made some big saves early on, especially on the penalty kill,” Thompson said.

Yann Danis wins AHL game No. 150; seven of them came for Bridgeport in 2008-09. Mike Dalhuisen scored his first AHL goal, though it wasn’t enough. Joel Rechlicz with his first goal of the year.

Prescout. Teddy Bear Toss night in Worcester… postgame. Anton Forsberg with the shutout; one goal on a penalty shot, so precisely one plus in the game, no minuses. Mike Cornell hasn’t played yet for Springfield.

Tom O’Malley won his 100th game as Sacred Heart women’s hockey coach yesterday.

Ringing the Victory Bell at Fordham.

Tough finish but a great year for a Seymour volleyball team I got to cover a couple of times.

And RIP, Patrick Schoonover.
