Collberg to Stockton, Reinhart up: Wednesday notes

Two men missing this morning: Griffin Reinhart was called up with the Islanders’ defense corps banged up (termed an emergency recall; Johnny Boychuk and Lubomir Visnovsky went on IR today), and Sebastian Collberg is going to Stockton.

“Listen, Collberg’s obviously a big prospect,” Thompson said. “We want to get him a lot of games in a short amount of time (Stockton plays seven games between Thursday and Dec. 14). He’s going to play a lot. They’ve only got nine forwards, so it works out he’s going to be in all situations.

“We want to see him get back to the way he played in the beginning of the year.”

Collberg didn’t have a point in four games since coming back from the lower-body injury and hadn’t been playing special teams.

Newcomer Jason Bast was in town and inherited Collberg’s last linemates, Kael Mouillierat and Colin McDonald. Mark Nemec was also back in town. Jesse Graham remained in red, though he didn’t seem to be shying away from bumping a little in drills in front of the net. Wondered if they might bring in another extra, with the defense at seven men including Graham: “We’ll leave it right now at status quo,” Thompson said. “Grahamer’s day-to-day.” Scooter Vaughan again hopped in some on defense to even it out.

And RIP, legendary Jean Béliveau, a great on and off the ice.
