Sound Tigers sign Matt Lashoff

That young defense just got a little more experienced.

The Sound Tigers have signed veteran defenseman Matt Lashoff to an AHL contract. Lashoff, 28, played in the KHL this year, so he had to clear waivers to play here; that process was completed today.

In 312 career AHL games for Providence, Norfolk and Toronto, Lashoff has 42 goals and 110 assists, plus eight assists in 23 playoff games. He has 16 points in 74 NHL games; he played at least five NHL games in each of his first five pro seasons. (In his sixth, he missed most of the year with a serious knee injury but came back in the playoffs as the Marlies went to the Calder Cup Final.)

His website shows his other interests.

Edit: Brent Thompson about Lashoff: When Pulock was injured, they knew they’d have a hole on the power play. “You get an opportunity to bring in such a quality veteran who can lead guys like Griff, when Ryan comes back, Graham, Mayfield,” Thompson said. “Each one of those young guys has an opportunity, from all the character references, (to be around) a solid guy and a good two-way player.”
