Gallant out, McDonald back: Super Sunday notes

Brett Gallant was the only unexpected absence today for Bridgeport. Upper body, day-to-day, Brent Thompson said, on a hit Gallant took in the third period last night.

“He says he’s feeling OK,” Thompson said. “We’ll see how he progresses.”

Thompson told a good one about how Gallant wound up on that power-play shift last night to score his first PPG since Junior A: C.J. Stretch was supposed to go next, and then, Thompson said, Sutter’s line with Gallant and Courtnall would go out to finish it up. When the winger came off, “Gally just jumped,” Thompson said. “Stretch just goes ‘hey, that’s supposed to be me.'”

But hey: Gallant goes to the net, “nobody’s gonna touch him,” Thompson said. “Something about Brett Gallant a lot of people don’t know is he’s got really good skill, good hands in tight. His hockey sense — I think he’s a better hockey player than even he gives himself credit for.”

Colin McDonald was back in town and back alongside Kael Mouillierat.

Early in the day and quite early in the week, but nothing yet from the league on the coincidental match penalties last night for Justin Hodgman and Lukas Sutter.

Unless I missed one or one was changed, Hodgman’s last night was the first match penalty by a Bridgeport opponent in over five years. Pierre-Luc Leblond, then with the Lowell Devils, was called for slew-footing Micheal Haley on Nov. 27, 2009. There had been eight by Sound Tigers since then, including two for Haley himself. The most recent had been Marc Cantin’s second, a year ago today, hitting Sean Collins in the head as Cantin stepped out of the penalty box.

Apropos of nothing, but called to mind because they’re right below match penalties in the list I keep: I miss the gross misconduct.

Bridgeport will take tomorrow off, so more Tuesday. Ryan Pulock came out for a while after the practice with a blade on his stick and everything, took some shots.

And RIP, Ann Mara.
