One day closer: Wednesday notes

Three goalies on the ice to start practice Wednesday at Harbor Yard: Kevin Poulin was on through the first half or so before he went off. Still no timetable, Brent Thompson said.

“Nothing’s changed,” Thompson said. “It’s all reaction to how he responds. Each day that’s a good day, we’ll say well, ok, that’s one day closer.”

Hard practice. Working on the defensive zone, particularly physicality. About as loud as we’ve heard Thompson this year. More in the paper.

Brett Gallant skated today, Thompson said, and sounded a bit more optimistic than yesterday about Gallant’s chances of playing later in the weekend.

Added on a PTO is Jack MacLellan, Harry Zolnierczyk’s college linemate, who was with the Sound Tigers in training camp and has almost a point a game for Stockton. “He had a good practice,” Thompson said. “Obviously with Sutter suspended and Colin McDonald up we’re at a number we needed a player. He’s been playing really great in Stockton, from all the reports from Rich (Kromm) and Cairnsy (Eric Cairns), who’s seen his last three games.”

Colin McDonald was up when Thompson said that, up, presumably, for practice at Iceworks. A half-hour later, the Islanders announced that their emergency conditions were terminated and McDonald was back. Shorter than usual. Will he actually be back tomorrow? For the weekend? Stay tuned, I guess.

A separate Stockton transaction sends Bridgeport contract Peter Sivak from the Thunder to Orlando.

Henrik Lundqvist took a stick and a puck to the throat Saturday, and gee, if that was still bothering him on Wednesday, can’t blame him. With him out tonight, Mackenzie Skapski got the call from Hartford. Who knows if that’ll still be the case Saturday, when Hartford comes to town, but there it is for now.

And RIP, Charlie Sifford, Frank Borghi and Dave Bergman.
