Captain better: Friday notes

Aaron Ness was back on the ice with a full cage this morning after taking a puck up there yesterday. Good to go? “Best defenseman on the ice,” Brent Thompson said. So there you are.

The most interesting tweak that appears to have stuck: Johan Sundstrom, not only in one of the more offensive-minded spots we’ve seen him this year, but also on the wing. Writing on that for the paper tomorrow.

Caught up with John Persson about the reports about interest back home in his services. He sounded a lot like Sundstrom did the other night. “My contract’s expiring,” he said. “Teams are going to be interested, looking, that’s a good thing, I hope. … But my main focus is playing in the NHL.”

Since this apparently didn’t post yesterday: The league approved what Tim Campbell reported over the weekend, a rotation through St. John’s, with Hamilton departing the AHL (for the OHL) and Winnipeg returning. Montreal bought the Bulldogs and moved the franchise to Newfoundland.

Sacred Heart opens its Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal series at Canisius tonight. Best-of-3 up in Buffalo.
