Persson out, ATOs in: Friday notes

John Persson’s been bothered by an injury for a while, Brent Thompson said, and by the (“mid-to-upper body”) way he talked about it, I’m thinking it could be the injury, yet undisclosed, that kept Persson out most of December after a hit from Oliver Lauridsen in Allentown.

“It’s been affecting his play,” Thompson said. “We’ll obviously keep him out, and it’ll give an opportunity for (Colin) Markison, the young kid from Vermont, it’ll give him an opportunity to play.”

Persson didn’t practice today; Carson McMillan was in his spot. Brett Gallant and Harry Zolnierczyk both practiced. They both started in red; Gallant got a light-blue jersey for the last few drills. Gallant could play one of the two games over the next few days; Zolnierczyk, still going through treatment and doctor visits, isn’t expected.

Expect Stephon Williams in net tomorrow. More on him in the paper tomorrow.

Syracuse plays tonight at Hartford, if you feel like taking a drive.
