Adding Eberle, no suspension, etc: Wednesday notes

Bridgeport signed Tanner Eberle to a PTO. He’s played a handful of games with the Allen Americans (ECHL) after finishing up his year in the WHL. A distant cousin to Jordan Eberle, he’s evidently got some edge, and he also put up four points in those five games with Allen, who’s the highest-scoring team in the ECHL.

Mike Halmo’s day-to-day, Brent Thompson said, but doesn’t sound likely for at least Friday. John Persson skated with the team, no-contact. They’ll see how he does after that, and they’ll see how Harry Zolnierczyk responds to a workout.

Brett Gallant won’t be suspended: Different category of game misconduct, so he’s good to go. Even with only two fights allowed per game and only 41 games played, Gallant has 223 PIM, the fifth-most in a season in team history. (The 22 from the instigator and his reaction to it actually boosted him from ninth.)

Bridgeport also sent Kevin Czuczman back to Florida (ECHL). “Strictly a developmental perspective,” Brent Thompson said. “He played well here. Getting him enough minutes for development is obviously an important factor.” Czuczman has played only nine of the past 25 Bridgeport games. He’ll get time in the playoffs and better minutes there, with Jesse Graham.

Speaking of young defensemen, the Islanders announced they’ve signed Kyle Burroughs.

Thompson’s older son, Tage, and Ridgefield’s Chad Krys are on the U.S. team for the Under-18 World Championship. Locals on the final CSB draft rankings: Darien’s John McDermott at Westminster at 106, Ridgefield’s McKay Flanagan at the Gunnery at 182, and I’ll assume someone I’m missing.

And Tim Bozon, once clinging to life from meningitis, joins Hamilton for the last week and a half of the AHL season.
