Second-to-last weekend: Thursday notes

Status quo on the ice this morning for Bridgeport. No Halmo, day-to-day, no roadie, figure questionable for the weekend. No Zolnierczyk, day-to-day, but he still hasn’t had a contact practice. Persson on, still in red, though he took “sorta contact,” as Brent Thompson said. He reiterated that each goalie will get a game this weekend, though he didn’t tip which was which.

Saturday is Pucks and Paws night. Or, in the immortal words of John Anderson, “bring everybody, bring your dog.”

The ECHL’s all-rookie team yesterday included brief Sound Tigers PTO Jason Bast and ex-Providence College forward Derek Army, whose grandfather Tom, as we wrote last year, is from here. (Speaking of, Derek’s alma mater works in the Frozen Four tonight.)

The Big Club will be watching Ottawa and the Rangers, and Boston and Florida, tonight. A loss for either Ottawa or the Bruins finally gets the Islanders in.

Nashville signed onetime Hartford forward Steve Moses, who’d become a sought-after free agent after a big year in the KHL.

Happy 87th birthday to Tom Lehrer, who has been my particular idol since childbirth. (While we’re here, it’s the 150th anniversary of Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. A little pre-nostalgia before the nostalgia.)

And RIP, Stan Freberg.
