Age just a number, red just a color: Tuesday notes

Meanwhile back in the States, Bridgeport had 15 forwards and six defensemen (with Griffin Reinhart up with the Islanders) on the ice for practice today. No Brett Gallant (who’s expected for the weekend, Brent Thompson said) or Harry Zolnierczyk (doctor tomorrow), but with Mike Halmo and John Persson both in red, which typically means no contact.

Also in red: Lukas Sutter. I hadn’t noticed anything wrong with him Sunday, so I was interested to ask after practice. Thompson laughed. They put Sutter in red to match Persson and Halmo, to make it a fifth line. Healthy.

Things looked similar — a few tweaks on the top nine, but similar, and it’s early in the week, so subject to change — to Sunday otherwise. Two more practice days, three game days, and that’ll be it.

Awards catchup: Jeff Hoggan was named the Fred T. Hunt Award winner for sportsmanship, determination and dedication to the game. Matt Murray’s awards season should roll on shortly when they announce the rookie of the year.

Greatly enjoyed the drive home from practice, when I was on Route 8 behind a garbage truck with Russian graffiti on it. Vulgar Russian graffiti*. (Google Translate confirmed.) I hate leaving that hanging, but I probably shouldn’t put it, in either language, here. Just, if you’re in a garbage truck and you’ve got these six random letters on your truck, that doesn’t say “XYN” up there. That’s all I’m trying to say.

Logically from the other day’s 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, today’s the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln assassination.

And RIP, Mark Reeds and Percy Sledge.

*-I’m actually blown away that I remembered that I’d heard the first word, a certain part of the male anatomy, as part of a breakfast discussion like 20 years ago. A Hungarian fencing coach talking about nicknames. But can I remember what happened Saturday? No way at all.
