Thompson (younger) drafted: Monday notes

In Phase 1 of the USHL draft, Tyce Thompson, Brent’s younger son, went to Dubuque in the seventh round. Christian LeSueur, of Greenwich and Brunswick, went to Sioux City in the fifth round, and Sioux City also took Tommy Craft, a defenseman from Hamden, in the ninth. I always assume I’m missing locals, so let me know if you catch any. Phase 2 is Tuesday morning. (Phase 3: profit.)

At Worlds after the U.S. beat Russia, in their pool, Finland won to keep pace; favorites Sweden and Canada also won handily in the other pool.

Devils GM Lou Lamoriello called a conference call this afternoon, then dropped the news that he’s not the Devils’ GM anymore. Ray Shero takes over. Lamoriello’s still team president, though.

The Manitoba Moose are, as I think we all pretty much expected, back.

Stan Galiev, injured in that last Worcester game, remained out today, Tim Leone reports.

And RIP, Officer Brian Moore.
