Pens back/RIP, Post legend: Saturday notes

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton stayed in their series, getting goals from Bryan Rust and Tom Kostopoulos and survived a late Manchester goal to win Game 3. The Monarchs lead 2-1 with Game 4 on Monday.

(Also, thanks to Jeff for pointing out that I gave Hershey too much credit last night. They’re tied with Hartford going to Worcester.)

At Worlds, Russia pounded on Belarus to get back even with the Americans. Finland shut out Slovakia — Pekka Rinne didn’t play, remaining close to the tournament’s modern-day shutout record — to make it a three-way tie at 12 points. Denmark knocked off Norway. On the other side, Canada sputtered along, gave up two goals in 35 seconds in the third period to fall into a tie with France, but Jordan Eberle scored with 10:42 to go to win it 4-3. Sweden kept second-place destiny in its own hands, and Latvia beat Austria to get out of last in that pool.

The U.S. has Slovenia on Sunday. A win clinches at least a quarterfinal spot.

(Forgot to chase down the IIHF Power Rankings along the way. “Dang, we lost to Belgium!”)

From Friday, Connor McDavid, doing Connor McDavidy things.

Undateable” is going all-live next year? Holy cro.

And RIP, Emmett Spillane Sr., a Post and Telegram legend, a great man and father to a few great kids.
