No gold: U.S. loses in semis at Worlds

Russia got its revenge, scoring four in the third to beat the United States 4-0 at the World Championship semifinals today. The U.S. had chances, but Sergei Bobrovsky came up with 35 saves. So, the Americans’ non-Olympic gold medal drought reaches 82 years at the World Championship (and no non-Olympic silvers since 1950).

Mike Smith made 23 saves in Canada’s win over the Czech Republic in the earlier semifinal. USA-Czech Republic for bronze Sunday morning; could be the fourth U.S. bronze in 20 years. Canada-Russia for gold and silver. Online-only for the bronze-medal game; NBCSN has soccer. (On the bright side, right at 10, it’ll be Swansea City.) The gold-medal game is scheduled to air live on NBCSN.
