Monarchs a win away: Friday notes

The AHL season could be 24 hours from summertime. Manchester scored three in the second to beat Utica 6-3 and grab a 3-1 lead in the Calder Cup Final. Manchester led 2-0; the Comets tied it with 1:06 left in the first. But Colin Miller scored on an early-second power play, and that was the first of four goals in a row for the Monarchs.

Game 5 is Saturday night in Utica. Cup in the house.

Most of those injured players from the other night were in the lineup tonight — Brian O’Neill, Brandon DeFazio — except for J.S. Berube. Patrik Bartosak got his first start in net for Manchester. DeFazio was one of three former Sound Tigers in the game. They combined for a goal, Sean Backman’s, and three primary assists, one for each of them. Bridgeport has three playoff goals in all in the past five years (all in one game).

Kevin Oklobzija reports that ref had a pretty good morning before he went to Utica.

If you missed it early this morning, Johan Sundstrom signed a two-year deal to go home to Frolunda.
