Qualifying offers in

The Islanders announced their qualifying offers, including Kevin Poulin, Kevin Czuczman and Mike Halmo. They also qualified Johan Sundstrom, who signed in Sweden a couple of weeks ago.

No great surprise there. That makes Poulin, Czuczman and Halmo restricted free agents come noon Wednesday. In cases like Sundstrom’s, it also retains their NHL rights after they’ve gone to Europe.

Arthur Staple tweeted earlier today that John Persson wasn’t getting one; Persson signed in May to play back home. Their absences presumably mean that goalie Kent Simpson and forward Alexandre Mallet (who was part of the Andrey Pedan trade and never got up here) were set free to become unrestricted free agents Wednesday. (The Big Club has until 5 p.m. to change its mind.) Jason Clark, who hasn’t played in over a year because of injury, officially would come off the reserve list as well.

Completely unrelatedly: Former Beast of New Haven and onetime Bridgeport camp invite David Nemirovsky has a new job in Vladivostok. I probably wouldn’t have mentioned it, except Nemo’s was probably one of the names I’d least expect to see pop up on Elite Prospects today.
