Redesigns, local rinks, Czech orthography: Tuesday notes

Hey, another new blog design. Let me know if anything’s less than functional for you.

We’ve gotten further and further from this baby. Shouts out to Rene Morgan for designing it 10 years ago… this week.

A newsy bit from yesterday: Charles Wang won an auction to take over the Twin Rinks in Eisenhower Park, next door to (well, across the Meadowbrook from) the Coliseum. The team had its kiddie camp there two months ago. The story says it’ll become the Islanders’ corporate offices and practice facility. (One imagines an AHL team can use it, too.)

Enjoyed this in the Times about tennis players’ names and the chair umpires who can’t handle them. Interestingly, at least Friday and Saturday at the Connecticut Open, I think the umpires were the only ones even close to Lucie Safarova‘s name. And that includes me walking around mumbling it, trying to get it right. Those haceks are tricky. I forget which player it was last year who said Caroline Wozniacki’s last name as an actual Polish surname in a press conference, but it was delightful. (Hat tip: Alex Hall.)

And RIP, Darryl Dawkins, Wes Craven and Ray Miron.
