Beckless: Saturday notes

The Islanders called up Taylor Beck this morning under emergency conditions for their game today in New Jersey.

“He’s played two really solid games,” Brent Thompson said. “They needed a wing, and he was one of the guys who’ve obviously played well. A number of guys could’ve went.”

In his absence at this morning’s practice, Sebastian Collberg took his spot with Alan Quine and Mike Halmo. Everything else looked new-normal.

I haven’t gotten to see anything past the box score from last night’s game, but Thompson was happy.

“I think it was a solid game,” Thompson said. “They’re a very, very hard-working team. I thought we matched their work ethic. We did a lot of good things as far as puck support. We’ve still got to clean up some turnovers, clean up some defensive-zone (coverage).” But all in all, a good one. Hey, we’ve picked things apart the past few weeks, and they’re 7-3 while playing more games than anyone but St. John’s. Not bad. Making hay.

Before I head off for more fooball, here will be your more direct prescout tonight. Andrey Pedan had three points last night (and didn’t crack the stars).

And RIP, Al Molinaro.
