Connor Jones signs AHL deal

Breaking it out from the postgameblog: Connor Jones finally has an AHL deal here.

“It’s been really a little weight off my shoulders,” Jones said. “I say I don’t think about it, but obviously it’s in the back of my mind. … Like a lot of guys have said, this is a really special group. Like today, when we play 60 minutes, we’re going to win a lot of hockey games.”

Was curious: Longest you’ve been away from your brother? Maybe a couple of weeks when Kellen went on vacation with his girlfriend, Connor said. “It’s good for us to split up and show we can play well without each other,” Connor said. “You miss your brother, you miss your best friend, but we talk every day.” And he’s glad Kellen is doing well in Bakersfield.

He’s found a good role here; Thompson has talked about Jones’ defensive responsibility and his work on the penalty kill.

“It’s been a good start,” Jones said. “I think I’ve shown I can play good defense, penalty kill and defense. “I can’t wait to score a goal. I’m pressing a bit. If I win a championship with one goal, and I get it in the last game, I’ll be happy.”
