Holmstrom up — The other one: Thursday notes

Connor Jones took part of practice this morning, but he seems to be questionable for the weekend. Brent Thompson reiterated lower-body, day-to-day on him. With that question mark, Bridgeport called up Josh Holmstrom from Missouri.

“He’s a good penalty-killer,” Thompson said of the younger Holmstrom. “He works. He’s had a great year in Missouri. That’s why we signed him, to be a good depth piece. He’s cut from the same mold as his brother, and we love the way Ben plays.”

It’ll be Josh’s second Sound Tigers stint; he had a seven-game amateur tryout out of Lowell in 2014. He’s excited, obviously, and like Jesse Root said last week, playing in Missouri has been a blast, the way things have gone for the team. And if Josh gets in, it’ll be the first time the Holmstrom boys, two and a half years apart in age, play together: Josh’s freshman year at Lowell was the fall after Ben departed.

“We talked about it over the summer, hoping at some point,” Josh said after practice at Wonderland. “Even in camp, we were in different groups.”

If they do play in the same game, they’d be the second set of brothers to play together for Bridgeport. The last 16 games of Jim Campbell’s Sound Tigers career were the first 16 of Eddie’s. (Gregg and Keith Johnson were both Sound Tigers in 2007-08 but didn’t play a game together. The Gillies brothers were never here together, though that could’ve been awesome.) As in camp, Josh has No. 12.

Appears Kirill Petrov does return to the lineup this weekend. Precisely where in the lineup seems to be a question.

On the other side this weekend, Mark Divver reports that Providence is waiting out the waivers process on Benn Ferriero, probably best remembered as a Worcester Shark. Portland won last night against Springfield; the conditioning David Bolland, playing with onetime New York Islander (cough) Shane Harper and Kyle Rau, was minus-2 without a shot on goal.

Aaron Ness was sent back to Hershey. Brian O’Neill cleared waivers and is an Albany Devil.

May or may not still be listening to La’s alternate versions. YouTube is a wonderful thing. I was trying to remember this morning how I came upon the album (way late) in the first place. No YouTube then to try it out. No streaming services. Napster, but I wasn’t going there. Different world 10-15 years ago.

Atlas Obscura’s “Places You Can No Longer Go” series takes us to… Alderaan. Clever and witty.

And caught up on Tuesday night’s Jeopardy last night. One of the clues was the “attempted chemistry” quote we’re fond of citing when a player gets busted for a double-minor spear or butt-end. Greatly enjoyed that.
