Three games for Mayfield

Scott Mayfield has received a three-game suspension for Tuesday night’s check to the head of Steve Downie. He’ll miss this weekend’s two games and Bridgeport’s visit to Providence next weekend.

Mayfield came up on Downie late in regulation time Tuesday, a four-on-four situation. (He talked about the play that night here.) There was no penalty called on the play. Downie was down for a while, went to the bench and received a misconduct himself for yelling at the officials over the non-call, which was shown twice on the scoreboard.

A year ago this weekend, Mayfield earned a six-game suspension for leaving the penalty box in the middle of the wacky brawl at Hershey (which included Kevin Poulin’s fight).

The call-up of Jesse Graham leaves Bridgeport with eight available defensemen, including Matt Carkner, who’s been listed day-to-day for a while now.
