Bears move on: Sunday notes

In a Game 7 that made for great theater, Hershey has its first best-of-7 series win since 2010. Travis Boyd came out from Casey DeSmith’s right and wristed one upstairs 10:57 into overtime to give the Bears a 3-2 win. It was a battle throughout: The Penguins came from behind twice, once after Dustin Gazley scored 93 seconds into the game, again in the third period on Kael Mouillierat’s poke-in after Carter Camper scored highlight-reel late in the second.

The Bears move on to face either Toronto or Albany. Game 7 in that one is tomorrow night (it’s that time of year), as is Game 6 in Grand Rapids-Lake Erie.

Over There, the U.S. lost to Germany on a late goal by the Ducks’ Korbinian Holzer. The good news for the U.S. is that Slovakia kept Finland unbeaten. The Americans should get through to the quarters with at least a point Tuesday against Slovakia, unless France somehow takes a point (or two) (or three) from the other unbeaten, Canada, on Monday.
