Holmstrom back/Matvichuk, Anderson out

The captain called while he was in a rain delay on the golf course and I was trying to cover a softball game. Ah, summer.

But at least he had a new contract. “It’s an exciting feeling to get it done early in the summer. I can focus on getting ready for the upcoming season,” Holmstrom said.

(And here, Melissa Bike walked, moving Hannah Hutchison to second.) It’s nice, like Bracken Kearns has said, to have a core coming back to continue to build around. “We can take another run at this,” Holmstrom said. “Obviously the team is finding that balance between developing young players and winning. The fact that we’ve got Kearns back, hopefully a few others, I think we can build off what we did last season.”

He said his summer was going well as a wild pitch moved the runners up. And we said goodbye as Jovanna Hillman drove in Hutchison and moved Bike to third, setting St. Joseph on its way.

General Fanager reports raises for both Kearns and Holmstrom.

Some big coaching news today: John Anderson is out in Chicago, and Richard Matvichuk is officially out in Missouri to become coach at Prince George in the WHL.
