New guy II / Gallant returns: Monday notes

Quinnipiac announced that the Sound Tigers have signed their Travis St. Denis to an AHL contract. That goes with Yalie Ryan Obuchowski, whom the Sound Tigers also acknowledged today. We’re told Bridgeport has re-signed a few other key AHL-contract guys from last year, though no confirmation on that yet.

A former Sound Tiger made his big return tonight, and now Brett Gallant is one win away from a Calder Cup, as are locals Jaime Sifers and Mike Paliotta. Lake Erie went up 3-0 on the Bears with a 3-2 overtime win tonight in Cleveland. Oliver Bjorkstrand’s second of the night, on the rebound of a Zach Werenski shot, won it 80 seconds into overtime. (Bjorkstrand’s first of the night was assisted by… one Brett Gallant, his first career playoff point in his pro playoff debut, a nice little shovel-out off a dicey pass up from the D, setting up a two-on-one, Bjorkstrand and Lukas Sedlak.)

Game 4 is Saturday in Cleveland after the NBA Final is over Warriors and Cavs clear out again.

Elsewhere: The Republican writes on part of the new Springfield ownership.

Brunswick defenseman Phil Kemp of Greenwich was taken in the 13th round of the QMJHL draft by Rimouski.

And it’s been a few days, but: RIP, Muhammad Ali.
