Qualifying offers day/nontendered day

It’s one of many deadline days, the day that Group 2 (restricted) free agents are due their qualifying offers, which retain their rights. From a Bridgeport standpoint, the important non-qualified players are James Wright and Justin Vaive, as Arthur Staple first reported. The Islanders gave QOs to their other restricted free agents, including Christopher Gibson, Alan Quine and Scott Mayfield. They also qualified Kirill Petrov to keep his rights.

Including the remaining restricted free agents (but not Petrov), the Islanders have 40 contracts committed to players (six of them RFAs, 34 of them signed), though three of them likely won’t count when the player returns to junior.

Edit, 5 p.m.: Aaron Portzline reports that Westport’s Michael Paliotta hasn’t been tendered, so he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Edit, 5:30 p.m.: Off the press release from Stockton, no qualifying offer from Calgary for Kevin Poulin or a couple of their local-college guys.

A good reminder from Andrew Gross that no QO doesn’t mean no interest. The nontendered can re-sign with their original team.

Edit, 6:15: Dan Weiss notes that Taylor Beck is among those nontendered in Colorado.

….

We’ll try to keep up with the Chicken Tenders today and this week, though other projects will likely distract us pretty strongly. Others seemed excited about tracking them, so we’ll perhaps toss up a link or two.
