Four signed, fifth implied: Tuesday notes

Bridgeport announced four AHL contracts today, only one of which fits into that set we had heard was re-signing, though he sort of implies the other one.

That’s Kellen Jones, twin brother of Connor, who was in camp with the Sound Tigers but never made it back to rejoin Connor. Kellen saw time in Bakersfield and, late in the year, Utica last season. Connor Jones’ return hasn’t been announced, but that line about him in this release sure makes it sound like it.

Bridgeport also signed two less-familiar but interesting forward names. Josh Winquist had 30 points in half a season while fighting injuries for Bakersfield. Aaron Berisha scored 45 goals in his overage season for the Memorial Cup champion London Knights. They seem like low-risk additions to a thin and young (outside of the two veteran re-signings) forward corps.

Defenseman Luke Juha, who was here on an ATO in the spring out of Penn State, returns as well. He didn’t play while he was here.

The Islanders announced this afternoon that J.F. Berube re-upped for next year. He was a restricted free agent.

Marc-Andre Cliche, one of the most effective Sound Tigers against the Marlies, signs with… the Marlies. Taylor Beck to Edmonton. T.J. Brennan to Philly; Lehigh Valley looks as competitive as it has been since the Spectrum.

Did we mention Matt Finn at Citi Field?

Congrats to the newlyweds.

RIP, David Thatcher and Lou Fontinato. And Howard Teitelbaum’s latest edition of the Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz noted a whole bunch of recent musical passings, most of whom I think I missed. (Also didn’t know the fact in No. 1.) RIP.
