Matt Carkner made it official today: he has retired from playing. He’ll still be around as a coach, though. So ends a 15-year pro playing career — he started the same year that the Sound Tigers started — that included 237 games in the NHL.
Parker Milner announced he’s going to Hershey. Mark Naclerio of Milford is going to Boston’s kiddie camp, Mark Divver notes. Mike Pereira of West Haven re-signed with Reading.

Paul Lukas pokes a little at Mike Francesa‘s pronunciation of “worry” in this post, in which he admits he’s been pronouncing “Wimbledon” wrong all his life. Here’s the thing about “werry.” I’ve never met Francesa, though I think we’re both Italian-Irish kids from the metropolitan area, so our original accents are likely to be similar, though his a little stronger than mine since he’s a little older. I’ve told you before that I missed the pun in the name of Sesame Street’s Herry Monster. (Marry-Merry-Mary.) When I read “Herry,” there was no reason to believe it sounded like “Hairy,” and when I heard “Herry,” I never really heard “Hairy,” whether that was because the actors playing (or being) New Yorkers didn’t say it that way, or I just didn’t hear it…
Here’s the thing. I assumed, as a young child, that the pun was that he was a monster in a hurry.
Swear to you.
So I have got to think that worry/werry thing comes from somewhere.
