Experience counts: Hartford postgame (exh.)

I wouldn’t call you old, I told Kane Lafranchise, but as a veteran guy compared to this group…

He smiled. “You could call me old. Maybe not in the American-League sense, but me being an older guy, a veteran on a young team … I just have to lead by example.”

He had three points in two minutes tonight, so that worked out all right. He was happy, as well, that Bridgeport didn’t sit back on that lead.

Andrew Rowe, another not-gonna-call-him-old guy, had three points of his own. The Jones brothers had chances and killed penalties. Especially against a younger, at least in the American-League sense, Hartford team, the guys you expected to look good, did.

But they had a solid performance all around. Penalty kill went 5-for-5 with the camper sampler. Power play got one.

“We have a lot of great character guys,” Thompson said. “The effort level has been outstanding.

Said Lafranchise, “You could tell right away the effort level from the first practice, the hard work, and the second practice was even better. (The new guys) have picked up the system quickly.”

…….

Penalty-killers included Nowick, Carzo, the Jones boys, Pauly, St. Denis, Morris and Rowe. Used four of the five available defensemen. The first power-play unit had Lafranchise up top, with Berisha on the left half-wall, Rowe, St. Denis and Carzo.

No immediate word from up top or here on any transactions. (Of course, not sure the Islanders were done when we talked after this one.) Missouri’s camp begins this weekend.

You’re in good radio hands: Alan called Trevor Gerling on the Hartford goal, though they announced Goulakos. I saw 59 from 32. Hartford had no guys with those numbers. Midseason form, baby.

Seen on IslesTwitter: Well then. Prospects guy Corey Pronman has big words for the NYI kids.

More tomorrow from the Land of Wonder.
