Waivers Day: Monday notes

The news of the morning came from the Island: P.A. Parenteau, presumptive top-line winger, is on waivers. Today was the last day to put guys on the wire to be flexible for tomorrow’s 5 p.m. cap-compliance, 23-man deadline. If he’s unclaimed by noon tomorrow, he could be sent down, which would be his first AHL stint since before his first Islanders stint. But there’s at least 23 hours before we worry about that.

Bridgeport’s new-look group skated this morning back at Harbor Yard, and it looked a little like this, in no particular order:

F: Rowe – St. Denis – Ho-Sang
Dal Colle-Kearns-Fritz
Verhaeghe-B.Holmstrom-Schempp
Johnston-Nowick-Markison
K.Jones-C.Jones-J.Holmstrom-Winquist
D: Lafranchise-Burroughs
Toews-Mayfield
Landry-Graham
Cullity-Finn
Leduc
G: Gibson
Williams

There is much still to be decided, if tossing a presumptive top-line winger on waivers two days before the NHL season didn’t tip you off to that. Several moves to come from the Big Club to get to 23. Bridgeport’s final decisions will follow that, Brent Thompson said, and it sounds like there’s still time for guys to seize the moment. “Even a young kid like (Aaron) Berisha … it’s a matter of him getting games (in the ECHL), playing a lot in a lot of situations. It’s the right thing to start there. It’s like the way we started with (Tanner) Fritz and (Colin) Markison. We’re building in the same mode with Berisha.”

There is no roster limit here, but something like 15-8-2 by opening night lines up with what they’ve historically carried. They’ll have a day or two of practice in the meantime; they skate tomorrow but will not on Wednesday.

The full waivers list from Bob McKenzie, which needed two screencaps: Part 1 and Part 2. Aaron Ness and Cory Conacher are among them.
