A’s for Kearns, Mayfield: Friday notes

This thing gets going in about 30 hours.

Brent Thompson said today that Bracken Kearns and Scott Mayfield will serve as alternate captains to Ben Holmstrom. “They’re solid, character guys,” Thompson said, adding that the leadership group goes beyond those three. “They know the system. They know what’s expected. Obviously our goal is to win the Calder Cup here. Those guys know, if they’re successful down here, each guy will benefit. It’s our goal as a team to evolve to the next level, and winning is a part of that.”

Bridgeport did make one cut from that 29-man roster yesterday: Jesse Graham was sent to Missouri. Numbers and getting him playing, Thompson said. “We’ll get where we need to be soon,” he said. “Overall, the situation was Jesse needed to go down and play and keep working on his game.”

Everything else looked status quo for the most part.

St. John’s is in Hartford tonight, if you want to see the IceCaps this year. Providence plays tonight at home against Albany before coming down here tomorrow, if you want to prescout and/or bring me a stuffed pie from Sicilia’s.

The ‘C’ goes to Joe Whitney in San Antonio; Milwaukee named Trevor Smith its captain. Coincidentally, they face each other this weekend.

Justin Vaive signed with Cincinnati (ECHL).

Sacred Heart’s dressing room is, well, still being worked on. The Pios nonetheless play their home opener tomorrow at 2. They’re at West Point tonight.

And Happy Anniversary.
