Notes on like everybody: Tuesday notes

Kind of a newsy day Tuesday after an optionalish day Monday. It started with someone who wasn’t there yet: Scott Mayfield was sent down by the Islanders this morning, announced as practice was starting up. It’s possible that he, Steve Bernier and Colin Markison all return to the Bridgeport lineup tomorrow in Allentown.

With them back, Kyle Schempp was sent back to Missouri, too, after Bridgeport let Rocco Carzo go from his PTO yesterday.

The ins and outs created some new forward lines, including, for the first time since opening weekend, Michael Dal Colle with Bracken Kearns. Bernier’s also reunited with Kearns, as he has been since he arrived. “They’re two quality veterans. It’s good to have a young guy with them,” Brent Thompson said. “DC’s been working hard. I think obviously there are more offensive things he can do, as far as scoring. I think those two veteran guys will certainly help as far as elevating his game to the next level.”

Dal Colle’s erstwhile linemates had Josh Ho-Sang with them. Ho-Sang has played with both Travis St. Denis and Tanner Fritz but I don’t think regularly at the same time (aside from their power-play unit). Connor Jones was where Ross Johnston was over the weekend; Markison was the honorary Holmstrom.

Kellen Jones skated hard after practice and looked pretty close to ready. “He’s more day-to-day,” Thompson said. Josh Winquist skated today for the first time since he was injured in Springfield a couple of weeks ago. Thompson still termed Christopher Gibson “week to week” but said he’s making progress.

Tomorrow is Game 25, which means Jon Landry’s PTO runs out at the final buzzer. Nothing done yet but sounds like both sides plan to get something done.

Elsewhere, Sacred Heart’s Mitch Nylen is Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
