Landry signs

This had seemed to be a matter of time coming, and the Sound Tigers announced this morning that Jon Landry has an AHL contract for the rest of the season.

He has been a contributor on the ice (eight points in 16 games, a shootout winner, and, scream at and about this statistic all you’d like, plus-13) and the only true AHL vet in the defense corps.

“His leadership in the locker room,” Brent Thompson said. “His day-to-day habits, for him, he comes, he practices hard. He’s a big asset on the power play. He’s got great vision and poise. And he helps the young guys. Those aspects make him a big piece of our team.

“For depth, with the call-ups, the guys up, he’s a good piece to have. I’m glad he wants to be here as much as we want him.”

Landry was the only tryout player on the roster for most of the year. (Rocco Carzo and Josh Robinson were the only other two, for their brief stints.) There are 29 players on the roster; 12 are now on AHL contracts.
