Bridgeport signs Tim Wallace

In a move obviously designed to distract from the whole Halak thing*, the Sound Tigers have brought back a familiar name from the past: Tim Wallace agreed to terms on a pro tryout, the team announced this afternoon. Stephon Williams and Pat Cullity are also back from Missouri.

Wallace, you may recall, has quite the history with this organization. A local villain in his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton days for an assortment of big and injurious hits, some legal, some not (Pat Bingham basically first called Brett Gallant up to fight him), he signed with the Islanders in 2011-12, had 20 points in 24 games here, went up, was waived to come back just before the trade deadline… and didn’t make it, claimed by Tampa Bay. He played one more year in North America, went over to Europe for three years, and came back home (literally, to Alaska) this year to an 18-29-47 line in 63 games for the ECHL’s Aces.

Bridgeport has been looking for that Steve Bernier type since it last had Steve Bernier, before the all-star break. Wallace is 32, but if he can still play that same game, he could be a key addition.

The transactions say Wallace, whose 2011-12 No. 36 is on Eric Boulton, is assigned 47. That hasn’t been worn by a Sound Tiger since Kyle Rank’s amateur tryout in 2006-07. It was the first number for both Justin Papineau and Ryan Kraft, and they’re the only other two to wear it.

Cullity’s back after three games with five shots and three minors. Williams played eight games to a 3-4 record, a 2.69 GAA and a .916 save percentage down there.

*-Not really.
