Somewhere, x marks the spot: Monday notes

Big day for Bridgeport yesterday in an alternate universe, where Albany’s loss clinched at least the crossover playoff spot for the Sound Tigers. This is not that universe, though — at least, it wasn’t when I went to bed last night; I should probably double check — so a big last six games begin tomorrow morning against Springfield, Bridgeport’s first home game since March 19. The Sound Tigers wound up going 4-1-1 on that six-game road trip. The 1-1-1 start made things dicey around here; the 3-0-0 finish has them back in the driver’s seat.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton actually clinched a playoff spot yesterday in this universe when Hershey lost to Lehigh Valley. The Sound Tigers have a point and a game in hand on the Bears now; Providence also won yesterday, so the Sound Tigers are four back of the Phantoms in second and three behind the Bruins in third.

Same lineup as Saturday ran out there in this morning’s practice. (Tough ice today.) Brent Thompson’s expecting Parker Wotherspoon in today but said he doesn’t plan to play him tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, Mitchell Vande Sompel watch: London and Windsor are going to a Game 7 tomorrow night. Thompson termed Tanner Fritz week-to-week, though they’re waiting for further test results.

Talked to Kellen Jones about a pretty cool whirlwind of a day yesterday; that’ll go in the paper.

AHL awards ballots were due this morning; I typed “McIntyre” and “Guentzel” quite a bit. And I think it’d be kind of cool if the AHL let the runner-up for the Hunt Award give it to Craig Cunningham.

And RIP, Katy Feeney.
