The Islanders announced a two-year, two-way contract for Steve Bernier this afternoon. Bernier, 32, had 16 goals and 10 assists in 33 games for the Sound Tigers before a torn labrum and bone chip in his shoulder at the all-star break forced him to have season-ending surgery. His stated goal, not surprisingly at all, was getting back to the NHL, but he was a key veteran for Bridgeport in all situations in the first half last year.
