Griffins, again: Tuesday notes

Hockey season is over. Martin Frk, through Tomas Nosek’s screen, with 7:19 left in regulation gave Grand Rapids a 4-3 win over Syracuse in Game 6, securing the Griffins’ second Calder Cup.

Tyler Bertuzzi was named MVP of the playoffs. Cory Conacher led the league in playoff scoring with 12 goals and 28 points, though Yanni Gourde scored a couple of goals Tuesday and finished one point behind Conacher at the end of a back-and-forth game.

Brian Lashoff, younger brother of onetime Sound Tigers defenseman Matt, was fifth or sixth to skate the Cup (after, among others, veteran Dan Cleary). Former future Sound Tigers defenseman Robbie Russo also helped the Griffins to victory.
